Queen Common Wasp

commonwasp

This Queen Common Wasp was sunning herself on our laurel hedge when I photographed her. She is probably 20mm long, bigger than the workers that you see in the summer (buzzing round your icecream). They can really be annoying, but in close-up they having gorgeous colouring and are very hairy!
