What is proposed for Corfe Mullen?
Background Information
To get an outline of what is proposed for Corfe Mullen read any of the Corfe Mullen Specific Articles or go straight to one of the articles written by the Daily Echo called "Can busy village cope with 700 new homes?"
If you would like to read what is happening in more detail go to the Draft Regional Spatial Strategy: Final Version. April 2006. This is the final draft which was added to the SWRA website in April 2006. Some of the proposals for Corfe Mullen are included in Section 4.3 which can be accessed by clicking here.
What could happen
Here are just some of the things that we think could happen if the Regional Spatial Strategy/East Dorset District Council proposals are allowed to become policy:
- an extra 1500 cars and commercial vehicles exiting and entering at the top of Pardy's Hill
- over 100 additional children crowding into the already overcrowded local schools
- chaos and danger when this additional traffic enters and exits the A31
- about 700 dwellings crammed into the Pardy's Hill area
- about 280 affordable dwellings squeezed in at 16 per acre
- integration of small, workshop-style employment buildings in the new housing area
- the most beautiful piece of Corfe Mullen green belt land gone forever
- numerous wildlife, flora and fauna never to be seen again
- about 700 dwellings in a Water Source Protection Area
- a devastating effect on service from doctors, dentists and hospitals
- the knock-on traffic congestion effect throughout Corfe Mullen and Broadstone
- although they are proposing up to 700 new dwellings now, it could be more!
